January was crazy, right? So I want to share my PRO strategy for getting back on track.

I must start this blog article with one of the most intellectually honest things I’ve said in my lifetime! Okay, now I know you are paying attention … January 2024 kicked my a**!

Before I get into the why, I’ll start with something I saw on Instagram, “I have decided my 2024 will start February 1st. January is definitely a free trial month.”

Friends, I’m writing this on Superbowl Sunday, which means today is Sunday, February 11, and I’m declaring my 2024 will begin on February 15.

I know that I am not alone; I have spoken with so many of my friends who have said the same thing. January moved faster than a NASA shuttle, and at times felt like the door was off our very own Alaska Airlines plane

I now understand that we can move forward with rich intentions to live a balanced life, cultivate Me-Set moments, or to spend more time with family and friends, but sometimes life just gets in the way.

I could go into all the things that made January difficult, but I won’t. I will say that they are all things you will identify with — family and friends in the hospital, neverending work deadlines, personal plans and hair appointments. Ha!

So, as someone who fully believes in Me-Set moments and placing mindfulness first, how did I end up in a place of exhaustion? I’m not sure that I am ready to lead a masterclass on this subject, but I will share with you my hack that got me back on track.

I embraced a weekend of P-R-O. Sound familiar? Sound sort of like PTO? PRO is Personal Rest and time Offline. For me it meant no phone calls, bedtime at 8 p.m., meals at home, movement (Pilates and walks), meditation and no alcohol. My body needed to recharge and restore the values it knew to be true.

I finally feel a little like myself, and I think it’ll take another PRO weekend or two to be back fully in the game. I share this note for those of you who might need a plan to get back on track, and, quite frankly so you know, you are not alone.

Here are three steps that will help you find your own PRO and hopefully return to center:

  • Turn off your devices: There’s no reason to check your text messages or IG reels. Give your brain time to catch up with the rest you desire. This also includes your television. Try listening to classical music or lo-fi music. This will also allow your brain to rest.
  • Meditate, write, move: When I meditate to set my intentions for how I want to use the weekend, journal about three things I hope to do with my time, and follow with movement like Pilates or stretching, it cues my body that we are returning to a place of center. One trick that I learned from my friend Sheryl is to place your bare feet on the ground or grass. When we do this, we become more grounded almost instantly.
  • Eat and drink as simply as possible: Just like your mind and body, your digestive system needs a break. I chose to eat a lot of plain foods and opted for hot liquids instead of cold, fizzy water. It all soothed me from the inside out! Yup, that’s my Sakara tea piping hot!

I hope this gives you the jolt you need to return to the game of balanced living. It’s still early in the year with lots of work to do. There’s no reason to burn the candle at both ends, right? If you have any tips for your very own Me-Set moments or PRO, drop me a note. I want to hear from you, and LOVE to hear from you. With faith and fortitude, I’m cheering you on!

P.S. Just in case you’re wondering just how fast a NASA shuttle travels, I looked it up. Here’s what I learned from NASA’s website: “After the solid rockets are jettisoned, the main engines provide thrust which accelerates the Shuttle from 4,828 kilometers per hour (3,000mph) to over 27,358 kilometers per hour (17,000mph) in just six minutes.” Pretty much describes my January. LOL. Onward, yay!, Miss February! 💖💖💖
