Here’s the wisdom I’ll be taking forward into the new year

Here we are, #Firestarters. The height of the holiday season. Need to catch your breath for a second? Me, too. Let’s take a pause and do that together.

(Deep breath)

OK, that’s better. Even for those who fully embrace these days as “the most wonderful time of the year,” the holidays can feel overwhelming. You might love the togetherness, the lights, the music, the treats, and the gifts. But, primarily, if you work so hard to create all that magic for others, you might not feel replenished by this season that’s supposed to renew us.

It doesn’t have to be that way, though. You’ve heard the saying, “Your presence is a present.”

Let’s edit that a little for a Me-Set moment. …

May the present be your present this holiday season.

This holiday season, I pray that we put away

our phones

our to-do lists

our regrets and worries

our expectations of “perfection.”

I pray that we embrace

time for ourselves

quiet amid the hubbub

our voice of inner guidance

every perfectly imperfect moment.

I pray that we accept

this gift of the present.

this gift of infinite value

this gift of infinite beauty

this gift our souls yearn for.

May the present be your present this holiday season.

Receive this present with a glad heart. Let it fill you. For it is only then that we, in turn, can give to others.

From the bottom of my heart, I wish you a holiday season full of presence, wonder, and renewal. And thank you, as always, for the gift of your presence here with me in this community.
